What is the IELTS exam? 

IELTS or the INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM started in 1980 by Cambridge English Language Assessment (then known as UCLES) and the British Council. It is an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It’s one of the major English language tests in the world. IELTS is the only Secure English Language Test approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for visa customers applying both outsides and inside the UK.  IELTS is used by over 9,000 educational institutions worldwide. 

What is the CELPIP exam? 

CELPIP or CANADIAN ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY INDEX PROGRAM. The test is administered by Paragon Testing Enterprises which is a subsidiary of the University of British Columbia (UBC). The CELPIP test has two versions, CELPIP-General, and CELPIP-General LS. In June 2015, with the acquisition of the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, Paragon Testing Enterprises retired the CELPIP-Academic Test. CELPIP is an English language assessment tool which measures listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. 

What is the PTE exam? 

PTE or The Pearson Test of English Academic is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at non-native English speakers wanting to study abroad. Tests include, Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, there is one multi-level test. There are six levels of the General test, each level is set at one of the CEFR levels. The tests consist of two parts: a written paper and an interview. 

Exam structure of IELTS 

The IELTS test consists of writing, reading, listening and speaking. The writing, reading and listening tests take place on the same day one after another without any break. The speaking test is usually scheduled on the afternoon of the test day. Also, it can be scheduled within seven days before or after that.  

The IELTS Listening test will take about 30 minutes, and will have an extra 10 minutes to transfer the answers to the answer sheet. The listening test is the same for both the IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training modules. 

The IELTS Listening test consists of four sections:

1. A conversation between two people set in an everyday social context, e.g. a conversation in an accommodation agency. 
2. A monologue set in an everyday social context, e.g. a speech about local facilities. 
3. A conversation between up to four people set in an educational or training context, e.g. a university tutor and a student discussing an assignment. 
4. A monologue on an academic subject, e.g. a university lecture. 

The IELTS Reading test will take about 60 minutes. It consists of 40 questions. A variety of question types is used to test a wide range of reading skills. These include reading for gist, reading for main ideas, reading for detail, skimming, understanding logical argument, recognizing writers opinions, attitudes and purpose. 

The IELTS writing test will take up to 60 mins. 

Speaking Skills test will take 11 to 14 minutes (the speaking test is the same for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. 

IELTS Speaking test is a face-to-face interview. The Speaking test is designed to assess the use of spoken English. Every test is recorded. 

Exam structure of CELPIP 

The CELPIP-General test is computer-based and consists of four sections reading, listening, speaking and writing. 

The listening test will continue up to 47 minutes, which contains,

•  8 questions from Part 1: Listening to Problem Solving.
• 5 questions from Part 2: Listening to a Daily Life Conversation.
• 6 questions from Part 3: Listening for Information.
•  5 questions from Part 4: Listening to a News Item.

•  6 questions from Part 6: Listening to Viewpoints.
• 5-8 questions from Part 7: Unscored Items. 

The writing test will continue up to 53 minutes, which consists,

The reading test will continue up to 60 minutes, which consists, 

• 11 question from Part 1: Reading Correspondence.
• 8 questions from Part 2: Reading to Apply a Diagram.

Exam structure of PTE

The PTE exam consists of three main parts – Speaking & Writing, Reading and Listening, which the candidates need to complete in 3 hours with an optional 10 minutes break between the reading and listening parts.

In PTE exam writing and speaking part, the candidates are given 77 to 93 minutes to complete. This section includes the following parts: 

1. Personal introduction.
2. Read aloud, 
3. Repeat sentence.
4. Describe the image.
5. Re-tell lecture.
6. Answer a short question.
7. Summarize written text Essay (20 minutes). 

In the PTE exam, the reading segment is 32 to 41 minutes long and evaluates the candidate’s understanding of written information in the English language. The candidates are advised to read the questions carefully and answer accordingly. This section includes the following question patterns:

4. Choose multiple answers.
5. Re-order paragraphs.

In the PTE exam, listening test is the final section of the, which is divided into various small parts, this segment tests the candidate’s ability to understand spoken English. The questions included in this section are based on audio or video clips played just once for the candidates. So, they need to listen to the clips very carefully and make notes as well. The audio or video clips are generally of 60-90 seconds and the candidates get 10 minutes to write their response in 50-70 words. 

This section includes the following question patterns:

5. Highlight correct summary.

Which countries accept IELTS CELPIP and PTE? 

1. IELTS is accepted by 140 countries and 10,000 institutions, for educational, immigration and occupational purposes. In Australia, IELTS is accepted, for many visa categories and also fore permanent residency. In Canada, IELTS is accepted for immigration, refugees and citizenship. In the UK, IELTS is accepted for permanent residency. In New Zealand, IELTS is accepted for Visas which includes, skilled migrant, investor and entrepreneur, the residence from work and parent categories. 
2. CELPIP has over 33 testing centres across Canada in addition to one test centre in the United Arab Emirates. However, CELPIP Test settings are currently only available in Canada and the United Arab Emirates, Dubai but also available in China, India, Philippines.
3. PTE is accepted almost by thousands of universities worldwide in the UK, Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Ireland, including Harvard, Yale and INSEAD. The PTE Academic can be taken at more than 200 test centre locations in over 50countries. It is approved by the Australian government for all visa applications. 

Registration process and price for IELTS CELPIP and PTE 

The procedure for IELTS registration are:

1. Log on to www.ielts.org.
2. Select the option “Register for IELTS”.  
3. Select your test date and test city (you will see the seat availability status).  
4. Complete the online application form.  
5. Pay the test fee by credit card (Master / Visa).  
6. Get instant seat booking and acknowledgement.  

The registration fee of some institutions for IELTS is 191.47$. The computer-delivered IELTS fees are 180.76$. The IELTS for UKVI fees is 252.38$. The life skills fees are 188.96$. The pen and based IELTS fees is 180.77$. Payment can be made by Credit Card/Debit Card or through demand draft or direct cash deposit at an authorized bank using customized pay-in-slip. 

The procedure for online registration of the CELPIP Test are:

1. Visit the official website of the CELPIP.
2. Submit all your necessary details.
3. Select the test date and centre.
4. Make an online payment.

The registration fee for the CELPIP Test is 147.96$. 

The procedure for PTE registration are :

1. Visit the official PTE Academic website.
2. Create your Pearson account by giving your details.
3. Once you complete the registration process, you will receive an email within 48 hours from Pearson with your login details.
4. The next step is to search for your nearest test centre.
5. Also, select a suitable time and date.
6. After selecting all your details like time, date, and slot you will be asked to proceed to the checkout button.
7. Then make payment and finalize your booking.

The requirements for PTE Academic online, candidates need a valid ID, generally a passport. 

The standard PTE Academic exam fee is 181.45$. In case the candidate is booking the PTE exam within 48 hours of the PTE test date, the candidate would be required to pay the PTE Late Booking Fee of about 190.53$.
